July 31 - Cordova to Valdez - Morning hike up Mt. Eyak ski slope - Salmon spawning - Ferry to Valdez

Day 3 dawned overcast with a very low ceiling. In fact it never lifted, and we were not able to take the seaplanes to Valdez. Instead we had to take the slow ferry.
During the moring, we took a hike up the Mt. Eyak ski area, passing the top of the lift. Marina and I took our time taking what pictures we could and separated from the rest of the group. After the hike, we spent time in town, and did some shopping. The highlight of this shopping was going to the Copper River Fleece store. Then while we still had time to kill, we went out and watched some Salmon spawn.

We then took the ferry to Valdez, ate on the ferry, I worked on my paper I had to give in September. At Valdez, we met back up with Kyle, and drove to the camp. Tents were set up. It rained all night and none of the tents had footprints. Ours got wet. We got a tarp to use as a footprint for the balance of the trip.

The day's map is here

The hike up Mt Eyak was more or less a constant incline. One way was 0.45 miles for Marina and I. elevation gain was 874 feet.
The red flag at the top right of the map is more or less where we were watching the Salmon spawn.
