July 30  Childs Glacier

After we returned to the van from the Saddlebag Lake hike, we drove out to the Childs Glacier which is on the Copper River. We spent the rest of the afternoon and dinner at a state park campground.

Dinner was the Salmon that we picked up that morning in Cordova.

Some of the group hiked back to the "Million Dollar Bridge". We stayed in the area shown in red. As you can see, the glacier is on the other side of the river and is constantly calving.
At some point I will get videos up on youtube and link to them here.

This is a stitched picture showing the glacier from our vantage point. Calving was happening all along the glacier face.

You can see a small wave from a piece that broke off probably 10 seconds before this picture was taken

We waited forever for this to break off, but alas it did not while we were there.

After dinner, we returned to the lodge for the last night not in tents.
