HMS Warrior - Portsmouth


As stated earlier, this is an 1860's vintage ship. It has had a somewhat storied career, first as being an innovative warship, then as a tender for submarines, then as a dock for oil barges before being rescued and restored. Some links about the ship are:

This ship also carried two types of canon. A traditional muzzle loading canon:

and these were smooth bore:


and new breech loaders which were rifled:

I wonder how long it took to unscrew the breech??

















This is stitched with two pictures both exposed at 24 mm focal length.






The ensign is red indicating that this ship is now part of the commerical fleet, not the Royal Navy.



The story behind the text on the wheels is that when this ship sailed into Denmark to pick up the Danish Princess, she is rumored to have said what is now on the wheel. The captain was so pleased he ordered the inscription.
